final project

here is the final project, it took alot of figuring out the box. i didnt take a picture of the final put together project. but you have it now paige so its ok

Project Brief

For this final project I wanted to take something with a lesser designed package of something I was interested in and make it something better. I chose the Akira Figure set from K&M, it is a package that had very little creative design on the box, simply images from the movie the toys are based from, and a poorly designed package.

I wanted to make a package for these mini figures that could not only provide a package for the toys to be purchased in, but also something the toys could be displayed in on a shelf or desk. That is why I chose to have clear plastic to see the toy inside on the face, but also a removable cap to take the toy out and keep the box alive still.

I went with a more attractive design that would catch people’s eye on a shelf and something that would go with the theme of the movie, for instant recognition. I kept a light blue and strong red to contrast one another and because of the capsule symbol known from the film and all of its posters for Akira as well. The capsule is representative of the gangs symbol for the main characters motorcycle crew.

I also wanted to take into mind with this package design how it would be hung on pegs in stores. In my original design I chose to have the shape with five sides, but I realized have an even number of sides would allow them to hang more efficiently in a store.

I also design the box to have sides that would not only show off the toy but the store of the characters and the film they are from as well. That’s why I chose to do a little stats panel for the character with a still from the movie as a profile picture. I tried to draw a face of the character but decided it wouldn’t have the same effect for people who know the movie’s characters. The stats panel also can be torn of to have a card collection of all the characters in the collection. I also put a small movie synopsis on the back, that was simple with no attention being taken away from the toy aspect of the box.

Overall I feel this project was really what I wanted to go for.
